In 2004 some five members, all Classic Car owners, had the idea of joining forces as an informal group with the singular objective of using their cars.
This Group is informally known as the 'Oily Feathers' or simply the 'Oilies'.
They quickly established a List of Guidelines, the key ones being:
• No committees and no formalities
• Wives, partners to be included in all events
• Everyone contributes in their own way
• All cars must be tax exempt - our Classic Car definition
• All members to have email contact facilities
• To become a member, a run in one of the events must be completed
From these early beginnings, the group has developed organically and has a number of established events in its calendar, ranging from The Mad March Run – which encourages all Oily Group Members to exercise their cars in readiness for the Summer; through to visits to Goodwood, Castle Combe and an annual Group Oily Holiday which has included Normandy, Brittany and the Loire.
The theme throughout the group, which now numbers some 35 cars, is to foster the social camaraderie we call the '1904 Spirit', members to enjoy their cars and the company of like-minded Oilies.
