The "Snappers" of course, are the photographic group within Bristol 1904 Arts - a dedicated group of 12-14 individuals.
It has become a tradition that the Snappers kick off their year with a visit to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. The morning of Tuesday 16th January 2024 loomed sunny but very cold, however, the arctic like temperatures did not deter 8 hardy Snappers and 4 partners as they made their way to the Bristol Museum. This stunning exhibition was established in 1965 making this the 59th year.
“The Snappers viewed with differing levels of awe 100 winning photographs culled from 49,957 entries into the competition by photographers of all ages and experience levels from 95 countries.
The images displayed showcase the Earth’s extraordinary diversity and highlights the fragility of wildlife on our planet. The winning images were chosen for their creativity, originality and technical excellence.” (Paraphrased from the Bristol Museum’s website)
Such visits are a source of inspiration to the Snappers. They highlight the need for patience, perseverance and technical knowhow. They also demonstrate aspects of luck, that is, being in the right place, at the right time, with a camera ready to go and cat like reflexes as nature explodes before you.
Many of the images on display were captured in this way and the observing Snappers could only dream of experiencing just such an encounter.
An excellent start to another happy Snapping year.
