On 24th February. members of the Avians visited the Wildfowl & Wetlands Steart Marshes site in Somerset at the mouth of the River Parrett. We were 25 in number and visited three of the available hides. The hides are necessary facilities in view of the weather, which was made up of strong winds augmented by rain and occasional horizontal hail. Nevertheless, 29 bird species were seen between us.
Lunch afterwards was enjoyed at the recently re-opened and much to be recommended Malt Shovel pub off the A39 east of Cannington.
