In an article written by Eugene Byrne for the Bristol Post, Eugene tells about our name change to Bristol 1904 Arts from the former "Bristol Savages" and he provides quite a comprehensive historical background to our club's foundation in 1904 and our developments over time.
While our original name of Bristol Savages was innocent enough back then (perhaps romantically naïve) but over recent times took on a more sinister interpretation - and it was indeed time to change to a new name that clearly represented who we are: BRISTOL being our focal point, 1904 representing our foundation and long history and ARTS representing both the fine arts and performing arts - the main function and purpose of our members' club.
And the article also refers to the many other activity aspects of our club including: our several formal dinners, our Annual Exhibition of Paintings (pictured above), our activity groups such as the Classic Car Group, Walkers Group, Photographic Group etc. that sets us apart from your regular art clubs and groups.
And in an illustration of how far we've come, Eugene rightly refers to our latest venture in hosting an
Exhibition of African Art (which is still currently running at the time of writing - up to the 25th September, 2022) - an exhibition called "Abolition is Now!" by The World Reimagined Group - see top image, for details.
