A Night of Total Welshness ...

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!
Bristol 1904 Arts celebrated "Welsh Night" on Wednesday, 2nd March - the closest evening to St. David's Day on 1st March. From the opening Welsh anthem sung with passion by three of our Welsh Entertainment Members (aka Blue Feathers) - to the reading of Dylan Thomas and the several Welsh Folk Songs - you were almost Welsh for the night.
In the top photo we have our Chairman, Jonathan Price - a classical pianist at our '1904' Club who compered the evening, together with his three supporters. Jonathan, by his own admission, other than his surname, only had the vaguest of Welsh credentials but we didn't care ... the night was fun!
And in the main photo we have Blue Feather, Chris Torpy, in his 80th year and with 100% Welsh credentials reading an excerpt from Dylan Thomas', "The Outing" ... the story of a summer outing, by charabanc (old style coach) to Porthcawl ... as seen through the eyes of a young boy with his uncle and friends in what is really a thinly disguised pub crawl. And the way that Chris read it, with his melodious Welsh accent, even with different voices for the different characters ... well you could just listen to him forever! A remarkable storyteller and narrator.
And interspersed with all of that we had some Jazz and Magic performances and of course our traditional viewing and critique of the Artist Sketches.
Another great evening at Bristol 1904 Arts!
